Greetings friends...it is that time of year where the pumpkin pies are baking...the sweet potatos are being topped with marshmallows...the giblet gravy is being simmered...and of course the noble bird is being baked, hashed, deep fried, etc.That's right...I'm talkin' bout THANKSGIVING. As you puruse the first photo...you seen the concerned look no Brenda's face as she has her hands clasped in either thanksgiving...anticipation...or anxiety. The real reason for this Rambling is to invite ANYONE...who for whatever reason do not have a place to go on THANKSGIVING...to come to the BOYD HOUSEHOLD.
One year...I was preparing for the baptism of the once proposed national symbol for America (that's right...the turkey...proposed by Ben Franklin). Brenda came out and suggested that I did not need to put any more oil in the pot...but being the MAN of the house...after she went back in...I snuck in a little more oil. When I immersed the bird in the hot oil.. there was slightly too much oil in the pot...and it overflowed onto the ground...the hose connecting the gas...and the fire ignitied on my hose and the ground. It was a small fire...that burned a small area around the cooker...but as I leaned over to beat out the fire with an aluminum pan... I did not see him immediately...but heard him say..."Rodney...whatcha doin'? By the time I arrived back to Southern Hills on the following Monday...the fire had grown to epic preportions...and I had burned down Rockvale.
